Subject:AHL announces suspensions
Time:03:43 pm
American Hockey League President and CEO David Andrews today announced the following suspensions after a league review of AHL Game #348 between the Lowell Lock Monsters and Norfolk Admirals, played Saturday night, Dec. 11, in Norfolk, Va.:

The AHL has suspended Lowell head coach Tom Rowe and Norfolk head coach Trent Yawney for ten (10) regular-season games each for their actions on Saturday. Both coaches had been assessed gross misconducts at the 20:00 mark of the first period.

Lowell left wing Brantt Myhres has been suspended a total of eight (8) games for leaving the players' bench and initiating an altercation. Lowell defenseman Allan Rourke, who received a match penalty for head-butting, has been suspended for three (3) games. Norfolk left wing Mike Brown and defenseman Jim Vandermeer have been suspended for two (2) games apiece for their roles in the incident.

Additionally, both coaches, a total of nine players and both organizations have been fined undisclosed amounts.

Rowe, who served the first game of his suspension on Sunday, will be eligible to return to the Lowell bench on Jan. 9 vs. Providence. Myhres will begin his suspension on Dec. 17 at Worcester, and will be eligible to return to the lineup on Jan. 7 at Manchester. Rourke served his first game on Sunday, and will miss the Lock Monsters’ next two games (Dec. 17 at Worcester, Dec. 18 vs. Worcester).

Yawney will be eligible to return to the Norfolk bench on Jan. 8 vs. Bridgeport. Brown and Vandermeer will each miss the Admirals’ next two games (Dec. 15 vs. Manchester, Dec. 16 at Houston) and will be eligible to return on Dec. 18 at Houston.

What's the deal with coach suspensions? I know they're not allowed on the bench, but are they allowed in the lockerrooms and such?

In other very good news (and since I think most of the people on this group right now are Carolina fans, rather than plain ol' Lowell fans or Calgary fans):

Cam Ward picked up his first professional shut out win tonight in a 4-0 win over the Hershey Bears. Cam started every road game this weekend (2 against Norfolk, 1 against Hershey) and picked up the win in all three games.

Congrats to Wardo!

Subject:Suspensions pending after Lowell/Norfolk game brawl
Time:06:48 pm
Current Mood:boredbored
For those who may have missed it, there was apparently one heck of a brawl in the Lowell/Norfolk game last night. Indeed, the N-C Observer had a story on it (since many Carolina fans headed to Norfolk for the 2-game series).

And now for the suspensions. Well ... actually ... they are suspensions for indefinite periods, as the AHL won't really do the tribunal thing until Monday. But with AHL President and CEO David Andrews at the game last night, I have a sneaking suspicion that they've already got the suspensions in mind without having to review the video tape.

The American Hockey League announced today that Lowell Lock Monsters head coach Tom Rowe and Norfolk Admirals head coach Trent Yawney have been suspended indefinitely, pending further league review, for their actions during AHL Game #348 on Saturday night in Norfolk, Va.

Both Rowe and Yawney were assessed gross misconduct penalties at the 20:00 mark of the first period on Saturday.

Additionally, Lowell defenseman Allan Rourke has also been suspended indefinitely, pending review of the match penalty he received in the same game.

This breaks Lowell's record for penalty minutes in one game. They set it with 88 minutes in an October 22nd game against Providence. They had 94 in last night's game. Providence is the 2nd most penalized team in the league right now, with 809. Norfolk is first with 844. Lowell has 566, which puts them probably about middle of the pack in PIM for the full AHL.

(That's what Wistah is saying...)

From the LLM site:

Lock Monsters goaltender Brent Krahn tied the Lock Monsters franchise record with his third shutout of the season as the Lock Monsters blanked the IceCats 4-0 on Tuesday night.

Rock on, Krahner!

The Lock Monsters rolled over the Albany River Rats today 3-1. Danny Richmond had a goal to make up for a first period gaffe that alowed the Rats to go up 1-0. All three goals were scored between the last two minutes of the second period and the first minute of the third period, and the first two were within 15 seconds of each other.

Cam Ward stopped 29 of 30 shots and made some key saves to preserve the win.

The Lock Monsters defeated the Springfield Falcons tonight with two goals by Mike Commodore and a PP tally by good ol' C-Mac.

Krahn was the netminder, and was a bit underwhelming IMHO, but he helped get us the win. Former Lock Monster Jamie Storr was in goal for the Falcons and actually played better than his 4 goals against suggests.

This morning during the local radio sports update, there was an announcement:

HOCKEY FANS! You WILL be able to see plenty of hockey action after all this season!

Come see the Albany River Rats as they kick off the regular season against... (I switched stations in disgust)

They teased me into thinking that the lockout had miraculously ended.

So ... for those of you who don't read my LJ...

Mike Commodore is coming back to Lowell.

Personally? I'm in heaven, baby. I couldn't be happier. Honestly (until we play on Saturday, when I will be infinitely happier because there will be constant hockey back in my life).

And no ... I don't fear the Fro. I love it. I accept it. I am one with it. :)
